Representatives of the 20 football clubs in the English Premier League will meet this week to discuss the possibility of introducing a new 7.45pm kick-off time on Saturday evenings for the purpose of television coverage, according to multiple reports.
Saturday matches currently kick-off at 12:45pm, 3pm and 5:30pm.
However, the Daily Mirror newspaper has reported that the plans are likely to be met with criticism from some parties.
The newspaper said that the later kick-off time could raise safety and policing concerns, with fans able to spend more time in bars and pubs before the match.
In addition, the new slot could lead to issues for fans travelling to games away from home. The newspaper cited a late kick-off between Bournemouth and Newcastle United as an example where travel may be an issue for some fans.
A meeting of the clubs’ chairmen will take place this Thursday.
