SuperSport, the pay-television broadcaster which operates in sub-Saharan Africa, has retained its rights to football’s English Premier League after agreeing a new three-year deal.
SuperSport has broadcast the Premier League since its inaugural season in 1992-93 and its new contract will cover the 2016-17 to 2018-19 campaigns. The agreement includes exclusive rights for sub-Saharan Africa.
The Premier League said it will conduct a separate sales process for a free-to-air package in sub-Saharan Africa which includes the rights to broadcast one live fixture per match-round.
The SuperSport deal represents the Premier League’s second overseas deal for its new rights cycle. The NBC Sports Group division of US media company NBCUniversal on Monday retained exclusive live rights for the Premier League in a six-year deal, from 2016-17 to 2021-22.
