German commercial broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1’s free-to-air channel ProSieben Maxx has expanded its sports portfolio by agreeing a rights deal for club competitions operated by Euroleague Basketball.
Under the sublicensing deal with telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom, Euroleague Basketball’s rights partner in Germany, ProSieben Maxx will broadcast a live game from the second-tier EuroCup competition on Wednesday evenings.
The length of the agreement between Deutsche Telekom and 7Sports, the sports business division of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, was not disclosed but will commence on October 12.
Basketball Bundesliga clubs Bayern München, Alba Berlin and Ratiopharm Ulm are competing in the EuroCup during the 2016-17 season, while ProSieben Maxx will also broadcast selected games featuring German champion Brose Baskets Bamberg in the top-tier Euroleague in the Wednesday evening slot.
Coverage will commence with Alba Berlin’s clash against Spanish club Montakit Fuenlabrada on October 12, with the weekly game set to be followed by a magazine programme entitled #ranBasketball.
