RDA wins ‘force majeure’ legal case against EPCR, awarded six-figure sum

RDA has been awarded a net sum of €205,662 (£174,000/$235,000) following a legal dispute with European Professional Club Rugby over the UK-based media rights agency’s use of a ‘force majeure’ clause to terminate its international rights sales agreement.

EPCR claimed damages from RDA when the latter terminated its €15m ($17m) deal to sell international media rights to the Heineken Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup after the final stages of the two competitions were postponed in 2019-20 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The four-season deal was due to run from 2018-19 to 2021-22.
