Real Madrid has joined forces with commercial partner, US software giant Microsoft, to launch a new app through which access to the Spanish Liga football club’s in-house television channel, Real Madrid TV, is set to be provided to its global fanbase.
The new Realmadrid App is the result of a partnership initially forged in November. Microsoft signed what had been described as a “landmark agreement” with Real through which it became the club’s strategic technology partner with a mission to support its digital transformation plan.
Real said the application, which is to be provided free of charge, will include exclusive premium video and statistical content. This will commence with the ‘En el corazón de la Décima’ film charting the story behind the club’s 2014-15 Uefa Champions League triumph.
The RealMadrid App is initially available in Spanish and English for all smartphone devices. Real and Microsoft plan to extend its reach to tablets, with additional language versions in French, Arabic, Indonesian, Japanese and Chinese set to be made available soon.
Movistar, the Spanish mobile phone operator owned by telecommunications giant Telefonica, has participated as a sponsor in the launch of Realmadrid App.
Orlando Ayala, chairman of emerging markets at Microsoft, said: “This application allows you to create customised content: by age, language etc. It is a stadium with an unlimited capacity that allows you to live all the Real Madrid passion up close. We are not just launching an application, but rather a global community. This will be a meeting place for the Real Madrid passion. This will open the club to millions of fans around the world.”
