Spanish Liga football club Real Madrid has launched its official television channel, Real Madrid TV, on digital-terrestrial television in the country, completing a process to secure wider coverage for the platform.
Real Madrid TV is one of three new DTT channels to be launched in Spain, completing an overhaul of the lineup conducted by the Spanish government. Spain now offers 21 nationwide DTT channels following the government awarding six licences late last year.
Real Madrid was assigned a high-definition licence after the government opened a tender process in April 2015, when it offered six new licences for DTT channels, three of them in HD and another three in standard definition.
Real Madrid TV was previously only available via pay-television platforms in Spain and the club had long been keen to increase its reach by securing a free-to-air platform.
