Burkhard Weber, a respected executive in the German sports media industry, has died at the age of 64.
Weber had worked as senior vice-president of sport at pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland.
Prior to that he worked as head of sport at commercial broadcaster RTL for two decades. During that time he became known as the face of ‘Anpfiff’, RTL’s magazine programme on the Bundesliga, the top division of domestic club football.
More recently, Weber had been working as a consultant for boxing promoter Boxstall Universum.
Weber stood down as chief sports editor at Sky Deutschland at the start of last year. In that role, he was in editorial charge of the Sky Sport and Sky Sport News channels. Weber became senior vice-president of sports at the broadcaster in 2011.
During his career, he also headed up German production firms Probono Fernsehproduktion and Lynx and friends.
