Slovakian public-service broadcaster RTVS has been granted a license by the country’s Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission (RVR) to launch and operate a national digital sports channel.
RTVS currently operates three channels, with most of its premium sports shown on the Jednotka channel and minor sport aired on the Dvojka channel.
There has been no launch date set for the new channel. RTVS announced in March that the launch of the channel had been delayed.
RTVS holds many of its sports rights through its membership and contributions to the European Broadcasting Union, the consortium of European free-to-air broadcasters, including the Fifa World Cup, Uefa European Championship, and cycling’s Tour de France.
The public-service broadcaster also holds direct deals with Uefa for first- and second-party national team qualifier and Nations League rights, and with international media group Discovery for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
