Rugby Europe develops new digital streaming platform

Rugby Europe, the continental governing body of rugby union, has launched a new digital streaming platform in a bid to raise the profile of the sport at second and third-tier level.

RugbyEurope.tv will stream live coverage of all Rugby Europe-organised competitions. The platform, which will be free to use, will feature such competitions as the Men’s European Nations Cups, the U18 European Championships and the men’s and women’s Sevens Grand Prix series.

Rugby Europe plans to cover 70 international games and 16 tournaments each year. The platform will also include a replay function and a live-tweet device, enabling supporters to interact with one another as they watch the action unfold.

“It is our first step towards increasing visibility and understanding of the dimension and the real potential of rugby in Europe,” Octavian Morariu, Rugby Europe president, said. “RugbyEurope.tv allows us to give countries of the Rugby European Championship including Georgia, Romania, Russia, Spain, Portugal and Germany pan-European-level exposure alongside the RBS Six Nations. Post-Rugby World Cup and pre-Rio Olympics, is an exciting time for the sport and we need to capitalise on these opportunities both on and off the field for all our member unions.”
