Russia’s Channel One picks up Kovalev v Ward fight rights

Russian state-run broadcaster Channel One has acquired rights for the highly-anticipated boxing world title bout between Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward this weekend.

Channel One will show live coverage of the light heavyweight clash, with Russian Kovalev putting his World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Organisation belts on the line against his American challenger.

Coverage of the fight night will begin at 6am Moscow time on Sunday morning, with a repeat being shown at 8pm on the same day.

The Sports.ru news service said that it was unclear whether other Russian broadcasters would be able to acquire rights to the fight in sublicensing deals with Channel One.
