South African public-service broadcaster the SABC has appointed Bessie Tugwana as its acting head of sport.
Tugwana’s appointment follows the resignation of Sizwe Nzimande, who has left the SABC to pursue other opportunities. Nzimande oversaw the SABC’s broadcast of the 2010 Fifa World Cup football tournament, which South Africa hosted.
Tugwana is currently general manager of SABC News and has worked on various strategic portfolios at the corporation, including performing as acting head of SABC Television and general manager for SABC2. She will serve on the ExCo, the highest decision-making body under the SABC board.
