Australian free-to-air broadcaster Seven has begun legal action to terminate its media rights agreement with Cricket Australia due to alleged “multiple quality and standard breaches” of the contract by the cricket board.
Parent company Seven West Media announced the move in a statement to investors today (Thursday). It is seeking a ruling from the Federal Court of Australia allowing it to terminate the agreement “on the basis of material contract breaches which were not remedied”. The Kerry Stokes-chaired media group is also seeking damages “arising out of past breaches”.
