Online streaming platform Sina Sports has struck a strategic partnership with the All England Club, which operates the Wimbledon Championships.
Under the deal, Sina will provide news from the tennis Grand Slam for three years, from 2017 to 2019.
Sina is already a partner of the Australian Open and US Open Grand Slams, and will provide tailored content for Chinese viewers.
However, it is unclear whether a decision by China’s State Administration for Press Publication Radio Film and Television to block Sina and two other internet platforms from streaming content will disrupt the partnership.
The state body accused Sina, iFeng and ACFUN of carrying “rule-breaking” content.
In a statement to the stock market, Sina said: “The company is communicating with the relevant government authorities to understand the scope of the notice. It intends to fully cooperate with the relevant authorities. The company will also evaluate the impact of this notice on its operations and its administrative options.”
