Siyaya TV has secured a broadcasting licence ahead of the start of its new rights deal for South Africa national football team coverage.
The pay-television broadcaster acquired exclusive media rights for games featuring the national team – also known as Bafana Bafana – in a six-year deal with the South African Football Association (SAFA) beginning next year.
The licence was awarded by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa.
Siyaya TV plans to offer a package of between 15 and 20 channels, including Bafana Bafana TV, which will be dedicated to the national team.
Siyaya TV has previously said that it will work with other broadcasters, including public-service broadcaster the SABC, to provide coverage of games free-to-air.
