UK pay-television broadcaster Sky has acquired rights to new basketball and netball competitions launched by sports promotional company Matchroom Sport.
Matchroom has joined forces with England Netball and the British Basketball League to launch new all-star events that will be held over one weekend at The O2 arena in London.
Debuting on September 23, the British Fast5 All-Stars Championship will see the top eight teams in UK netball’s Superleague compete for a record-breaking prize fund of £100,000 (€115,700/$122,400).
The British Basketball All-Stars Championship will take place on the following day, also promising a new, entertaining take on the game with a record-breaking £100,000 prize fund. Five players per team will take to the court in shorter-timed matches, with other innovations planned.
Sky Sports will cover both competitions. The broadcaster has a strong commitment to netball in the UK, and holds rights to the domestic Superleague, England international test series, the ANZ Championship, Quad Series and Fast5 tournaments.
