Pay-television broadcaster Sky Italia has agreed a deal to air the inaugural edition of the European Games multi-sport event, which takes place in Azerbaijan this year.
Sky Italia will screen live coverage and highlights from Baku 2015 across its sports channels and Sky Go on-demand service.
As the exclusive rights holder for Baku 2015 in Italy, Sky Italia will also promote the Games through its Sky Sport 24 news channel.
Charlie Wijeratna, commercial director of Baku 2015, said: “International broadcast sales are progressing very well, and it is fantastic that we have signed this agreement to broadcast the Games with such a renowned channel as Sky Italia. The deal is another success for Baku 2015 and reflects the continued interest we are receiving from major broadcasters around the world. There will be more announcements relating to European countries in the coming months as we convert the deals we have agreed in principle into long-form contracts.”
The Baku 2015 European Games run from June 12-28 in Azerbaijan’s capital city. The event will be comprised of 16 Olympic and four non-Olympic sports.
