UK pay-television broadcaster Sky has stepped up its commitment to virtual reality technology by launching a new app.
Sky VR will showcase a range of sports content, including behind-the-scenes films documenting world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, UCI WorldTour cycling outfit Team Sky and Formula One motor racing team Williams.
To coincide with the app’s launch, Sky has partnered with former England football captain David Beckham on a new VR experience.
In the film, Beckham enters a Sky VR simulator, which takes him and the viewer to leading sports events around the world at the touch of a button. The footage was created by Sky VR Studios in collaboration with technology giant Google.
The app, which also features music and entertainment content, is available to download on compatible mobile devices via the App Store and Google Play.
Sky said it will be adding more to the app over the coming months, introducing more immersive VR features to improve the user experience.
