Sky New Zealand replaces TVNZ as America’s Cup broadcaster

Pay-television broadcaster Sky New Zealand has acquired exclusive rights in the country for the next edition of the America’s Cup sailing event.

Sky NZ has dislodged state broadcaster TVNZ as the rights-holder in the country.

Sky NZ will provide live coverage of every race, beginning with the World Series event in Oman at the end of this month, on February 27-28.

The broadcaster will also show replays and highlights of races through to the America’s Cup Qualifiers, Challenger Playoffs and then the final Match in Bermuda in May and June 2017 where the top challenger will take on defending champion, Oracle Team USA.

At the 2013 America’s Cup Match, Emirates Team New Zealand was edged out by Oracle by a single race.
