Social media platform Snapchat and online streaming service Netflix have entered the Indian Premier League through partnerships with teams in the Twenty20 cricket tournament.
Snapchat has joined forces with the Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals for the ongoing 2018 season.
All four franchises will have official accounts on Snapchat and will post official stories through the Discover platform showcasing behind the scenes action from their IPL campaigns. The agreements mark Snapchat’s first engagement with a sporting event in India.
Meanwhile, Netflix has said the Indians will be the subject of its latest sports documentary series. Netflix has joined forces with production and distribution studio Condé Nast Entertainment for the venture, which will result in an original unscripted series on the three-time IPL champion.
The eight-part series will spend time with players during the 2018 season, both on and off the field, on the road and at home. Produced by Condé Nast Entertainment, the series will be available exclusively on Netflix in 190 countries around the world.
