Sony Pictures Networks India lands World Wrestling Championship rights

Pay-television broadcaster Sony Pictures Networks India has acquired rights for this year’s World Wrestling Championship, which takes place from September 14-22 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

SPNI struck the agreement with Sporty Solutionz, the exclusive regional rights partner of United World Wrestling, which organises the competition.

The deal grants SPNI exclusive television rights and non-exclusive digital transmission rights for the event across the Indian subcontinent.

Preliminary rounds will be streamed on the SonyLIV video-on-demand service, before the semi-finals and finals are shown daily on the Sony Ten 3 SD &HD and Sony ESPN SD &HD channels. SonyLIV will also stream coverage of semi-finals and finals.

This year’s World Wrestling Championship will serve as a qualification event for the 2020 summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. The event will feature competitions in men’s freestyle, men’s Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle across different weight categories.
