The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has tabled a proposal to the Spanish Football League (LFP) form a joint commission in order to negotiate the collective sale of rights to the Liga, the sport’s top division in the country.
The commission, which would comprise five LFP representatives and five RFEF representatives, would serve as a link between the clubs and the country’s government, which needs to approve new legislation to enable collective selling to take place.
The clubs recently urged the government to introduce the legislation as soon as possible, and there are hopes that the new model could be introduced as early as the 2016-17 season.
RFEF president Angel Maria Villar said in a letter to the LFP that it was important to underline that the federation will be the “owner” of the rights and must therefore be involved in setting the parameters of the sales process.
