Canadian pay-television broadcaster Rogers Sportsnet has agreed a sublicensing deal with the Fox Sports division of US network Fox to broadcast coverage of the German Bundesliga in Canada.
In 2013, Fox Sports struck a five-season deal, from 2015-16 to 2019-20, for the rights to broadcast the Bundesliga in the US and Canada as part of a wider, multi-territory deal.
However, as Fox does not have a presence in Canada, it has opted to sublicense rights in the country on an exclusive basis to Sportsnet for the five seasons.
The sublicensing agreement covers all 306 league matches during each season of the Bundesliga, as well as the relegation play-offs and the German Supercup match between the winners of the previous season’s Bundesliga and DFB Cup.
The deal also includes a range of highlights programmes such as the weekly Bundesliga Matchday.
Sportsnet will broadcast live coverage of all matches via its Sportsnet World Now digital streaming product. Selected games will also be broadcast live on Sportsnet One, Sportsnet World and various regional channels.
