Indian pay-television broadcaster Star Sports has agreed a rights deal with the organisers of the Chennai Open, the country’s only men’s ATP World Tour tennis event, covering the next three editions of the tournament until 2016.
Along with live action from the event, Star will also offer news and analysis related to the tournament on its show ‘Star Power’.
Ashu Jindal, chief operating officer of the IMG Reliance agency, said: “We see television as a vital platform to ignite passion for tennis in India and enhance the reach of the event. We are confident that our association with Star Sports will benefit the growth of the event in many new ways.”
The 2014 edition of the Chennai Open commenced on December 30 and concludes on January 5. It is one of four ATP World Tour 250 tournaments held in January, along with events in Brisbane, Sydney, Auckland and Doha.
