Saudi telco STC has acquired exclusive rights for the country’s professional football competitions and the national football team.
According to the Saudi Gazette newspaper, the deal will run for 10 years and is worth a total of SAR6.6bn (€1.4bn/$1.8bn).
STC agreed the deal with the Saudi Football Federation and the country’s General Sports Authority. STC has dislodged Middle Eastern broadcaster MBC in the role.
The agreement covers all national team matches that are under the jurisdiction of the national federation, as well as the Saudi Professional League, King’s Cup and Crown Prince’s Cup.
The newspaper said that a memorandum of understanding had been signed by STC chief executive Khaled Biyari, Adel Ezzat, the federation’s chairman of the board, and Turki Bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Sheikh, chairman of the GSA board.
The deal also reportedly covers marketing rights.
