International sports broadcaster Setanta Sports has broadened its reach in the Baltic markets by agreeing a carriage deal with Estonian cable television operator STV.
Cable television operator Baltcom last week announced a similar deal to launch the Setanta Sport Eurasia channel in Latvia, with the agreements being brokered by Setanta’s distribution partner, the Wide Media agency.
Setanta Sport Eurasia will offer content including North American ice hockey league the NHL, as well as football’s Spanish Liga, Italian Serie A, French Ligue 1 and the English FA Cup and Capital One Cup competitions. The two parties added the channel will soon be available in Lithuania.
Dwyer Mccaughley, chief executive of Setanta Sport Eurasia, said: “We have successfully launched channels into the surrounding territories and believe these markets are a natural extension for our business. We are very excited about working in the markets and believe that our soccer leagues and NHL will be widely watched by customers in this region.”
Risto Rosimannus, chief executive of Wide Media, added: “We are also having intensive negotiations with other operators in the region and hope that we can soon announce more launches in the region.”
