UK sports production and media company Sunset+Vine has been appointed as the exclusive global distribution agency for the 2017-18 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race sailing event.
Sunset+Vine will bear responsibility for nine 30-minute shows over the course of the event, as well as pre-race and post-race one-hour specials.
The company will also provide digital livestream coverage at the start and finish of each leg, and during in-port races.
Sunset+Vine will be responsible for driving its distribution to broadcasters worldwide as well as capturing new audiences through a digital-first approach.
Leon Sefton, head of television for the Volvo Ocean Race, said: “Our television programming will be focused on high-end storytelling but the instant updates, inside looks and day-to-day drama will be available via digital content that will provide viewers more immediate and on-demand access to the stories as they unfold. Today’s viewer wants to see sports action when they want it: on the go, on their smartphones with the ability to share via social media.”
Sunset+Vine has served as the host broadcaster of the race on three occasions in the past. The company worked on UK public-service broadcaster the BBC’s sailing output during the 2012 and 2016 summer Olympic Games, and has also produced coverage for the America’s Cup and the World Sailing Championships.
The 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race begins in Alicante, Spain on October 22.
