Indian subcontinent pay-television broadcaster Ten Sports has said it will reduce subscription fees for its Ten Golf channel in India as it seeks to further promote the sport in the country.
The IndianTelevision.com website said that Ten Golf would now be available in India on both DTH and cable-television platforms as part of “high-end” packages.
Ten Golf is currently available for a stand-alone subscription fee of Rs200 (€2.3/$3) per month, but will now see a “significant shift” in pricing on both DTH and cable television.
Ten Sports chief executive Rajesh Sethi said a deal has already been agreed for Ten Golf to feature on DTH operator Airtel Digital TV’s ‘Ultra’ pack, with nearly 500,000 subscribers having already signed up to the service. “We are now a part of a package for which the DTH platform charges anywhere between Rs400 to Rs500 a month,” he said.
Sethi continued: “On September 1 we made a filing with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for price revision. We are looking at a reduction in rates to both promote golf and make it available to a larger viewership base. I am looking at reaching out to 1.4 million subscribers once we get on the high-end offerings… on the other two DTH platforms. This should happen by October.”
