Tenfield scores rights to Uruguay friendlies

Tenfield, the Uruguayan agency and media company, has acquired rights to the Uruguayan national football team’s four remaining international friendlies this year.

The inventory includes two matches against Peru on October 11 and October 15 as well as a match against Hungary on November 15, according to rights-holder the Uruguay Football Federation (AUF).

The October 11 match against Peru is the only home fixture. The opponent for the fourth match is currently unlisted on the AUF website.

Tenfield will show the games on VTV, its subscription sports channel.

The rights fee paid by Tenfield is “adjusted to reflect the reality of the market”, the AUF said.

The national association initiated the domestic sales process in August, inviting bids for a six-match package from cable, satellite or terrestrial broadcasters in Uruguay.

However, the process failed to attract any offers and Uruguay’s friendly matches last month against Costa Rica and USA were only streamed by Vera+, the digital platform owned by government telecoms company Antel. The production was handled by the federation’s AUF TV channel.

The AUF had valued the six-match package, which also includes pitchside advertising rights at the friendly games and media rights to the final stages of Uruguay’s National Club Cup, at around $1m.

The television rights on offer were non-exclusive as the AUF specified in its invitation to tender document that it would be also be able to strike deals with streaming platforms.
