Discovery Communications’ German free-to-air channel, TLC, will show live coverage of the 2018 winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, the media and entertainment company has said.
Discovery said that TLC, which is usually geared towards a female audience, will provide daytime coverage of the Games.
It had originally been expected that Discovery’s male-focused general entertainment channel, DMAX, would show the coverage.
However, according to the DWDL.de news website, DMAX had to be replaced with TLC after German public-service broadcasters ARD and ZDF agreed a sublicensing deal with Discovery for live and highlights coverage of the Olympic Games through to 2024.
TLC will show live coverage before jointly broadcasting highlights of the day’s action, alongside Eurosport 1.
Discovery’s Eurosport Player digital service will provide blanket coverage of every competition.
