Spanish public-service broadcaster TVE has retained its rights to the national football team’s qualifying games for major tournaments under a new deal with European governing body Uefa.
TVE president, José Antonio Sánchez, announced the deal to the Spanish government. The contract will include Spain’s qualifying matches for the Euro 2020 and 2022 Fifa World Cup tournaments.
It will also include matches from the 2018-19 and 2020-21 Nations League, the new national team tournament launched by Uefa.
The Nations League, which will take place for the first time in 2018-19, has been introduced to replace traditional friendly matches in Europe, with all 55 teams under the Uefa umbrella to take part.
Sánchez said that more than 40 matches will be broadcast by TVE between 2018 and 2022.
