Portuguese commercial broadcaster TVI has agreed a two-year extension to its rights deal for the Taça da Liga, Portuguese football’s league cup competition.
The agreement with the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) comprises the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons of the competition, which is open to Primeira Liga and Segunda Liga clubs. Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola said TVI will pay €1.2m ($1.5m) per season for the rights.
During the 2014-15 season, TVI will broadcast five games from the third round of the Taça da Liga, along with the two semi-finals and the final. The third round is scheduled to commence on December 28.
Benfica is the reigning Taça da Liga champion having defeated Rio Ave 2-0 to win the 2013-14 competition.
