Portuguese commercial broadcaster TVI has acquired a package of rights to the country’s national football team, according to Expresso.
The Portuguese newspaper said TVI will this year broadcast two senior national team friendly games featuring the Uefa Euro 2016 champion, along with six Under-21 matches.
It added the deal has been made possible after public-service broadcaster RTP passed up the rights in order to agree a deal last week for domestic club competition the Taça da Liga.
RTP’s agreement with the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional covers the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons of the cup competition and includes rights to eight games per tournament.
TVI was the Taça da Liga’s previous rights holder.
