Streaming platform Twitch has acquired the rights to a pair of friendly matches featuring French Ligue 1 side Dijon Football Côte D’Or.
The matches will be played on August 7 and 15 against fellow Ligue 1 sides FC Metz and Nîmes Olympique, respectively.
The platform had recently signed a similar deal with Ligue 1 side Marseille for two friendlies.
Twitch has made concerted push into live football this year, forging partnerships with a number of Europe’s elite clubs as well as securing the global broadcast rights to the top level of women’s football in the US, the NWSL, for three years.
The service views traditional sports as a prime way to grow its viewer base and has recently added ‘Sports’ as a standalone searchable category on its platforms as well as relaunching the twitchsports channel.
This forms part of Twitch’s wider strategy which will increase the prominence of traditional sports on its platforms.
Twitch was chosen by its parent company, Amazon, to broadcast four matches from the English Premier League after the league’s restart following its interruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
