Social media platform Twitter has struck a deal to stream live coverage of the 2016 Melbourne Cup horse racing event on November 1.
The agreement marks the first time that Twitter will stream live coverage of a sporting event outside the US.
The hour-long programme will begin at 2.30pm local time and will be produced for the Victoria Racing Club, which hosts the spectacle, by commercial broadcaster Seven, the event’s rights-holder.
The coverage will include 30 minutes of pre-race and post-race analysis.
In addition, the FlemingtonVRC Twitter account will also post video clips over the course of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, including race highlights and behind-the-scenes footage.
