European football’s governing body Uefa has launched tender processes for broadcast rights to its Champions League and Europa League club competitions in the Middle East and North Africa.
The Champions League tender runs across the three seasons from 2018-19 to 2020-21 and also includes the Super Cup games in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
The Europa League tender comprises the same three seasons. Deadlines for bids for both tenders have been set at July 17.
A source close to Qatar-based pay-television broadcaster beIN Sports told TV Sports Markets: “We are surprised and disappointed by the timing, especially given we had concerns with the sales process in France.”
The sales process is being administered on behalf of Uefa by Team Marketing, Uefa’s exclusive marketing agency for the exploitation of certain media and commercial rights relating to its club competitions.
