Spanish-language US broadcaster Univision Deportes has acquired rights for tournaments operated by Concacaf, the governing body of football in North and Central America and the Caribbean, in a 10-year deal, starting immediately and running until the end of 2022.
Under the deal, Univision has secured Spanish- and Portuguese-language multimedia rights to the Gold Cup, the biennial competition comprising 12 national teams from across the region, in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021.
The rights also include national team events such as the biennial Concacaf men’s and women’s U-17 and U-20 competitions and the quadrennial Concacaf Futsal Championship, as well as the annual Concacaf Champions League club tournament.
The rights will be exploited on the main Univision channel as well as the TeleFutura free-to-air channel, the Galavision pay-television channel and 24-hour sports pay-television channel Univision Deportes Network.
The deal, which includes online and mobile rights, is reported to be the longest ever rights agreement struck by Concacaf.
“After historic wins at the Olympics by Mexico, Canada, and the US, and record viewership of the 2011 Gold Cup on Univision, this agreement will allow us to showcase the highest quality of competitions and talent from all of our member nations,” Concacaf president Jeffrey Webb said.
