Viewers flock to Cuatro for Spain’s Fiba World Cup victory

Spain’s triumph at the 2019 Fiba Basketball World Cup drew significant audience figures for commercial free-to-air broadcaster Mediaset’s Cuatro channel.

Spain defeated Argentina 95-75 in yesterday’s (Sunday’s) final in Beijing, China, with Cuatro’s broadcast of the match generating an average of 6.2 million viewers for an audience share of 46.5 per cent.

The game tipped off at 2pm (CET) in Spain and Cuatro’s pre-game coverage was watched by 1.9 million viewers (a 23.4-per-cent share).

The finale to the World Cup also drew strong figures in France, as its national team departed the tournament at the semi-final stage.

France lost 80-66 to Argentina on Friday, with free-to-air commercial broadcaster M6’s live coverage of the game drawing an average of 1.1 million viewers for a 15-per-cent audience share.

Pay-television broadcaster Canal Plus holds rights to Fiba events in France and its coverage of the match generated an average audience of 328,000 subscribers.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s France-Australia third-placed playoff was watched by an average of 447,000 viewers (a 9.9-per-cent share) on Cuatro.
