Virgin Media latest to sign up for BBC and Eurosport Olympics channels

UK pay-television operator Virgin Media will carry channels featuring coverage from the London 2012 Olympic Games under new deals with public-service broadcaster the BBC and pan-European broadcaster Eurosport.

Virgin has become the latest platform to agree a deal with the BBC to carry the broadcaster’s 24 live channels covering the Olympics on a non-exclusive basis. Pay-television operator BSkyB and free-to-air digital satellite service Freesat have already agreed similar deals.

Virgin has also obtained rights to 3D coverage of the opening and closing ceremonies and selected live events and daily highlights as part of deals with the BBC and Eurosport, which has pan-European rights for the Games.

Virgin will carry the 3D channel that Eurosport is launching channel to coincide with the start of the Games on July 27. Eurosport is planning to show eight hours of live coverage and four hours of highlights coverage on the channel each day.
