Chinese state broadcaster CCTV has agreed a partnership with VfL Wolfsburg to support the German Bundesliga football club’s tour of the country, which will take place from May 16-22.
CCTV subsidiary CCTV Sports & Entertainment struck the agreement to act as the promoter of the tour, which will comprise two friendly games and promotional activities.
Under the deal, sports channel CCTV 5 will broadcast live Wolfsburg’s first friendly game against Chinese Super League club FC Changchun Yatai on May 18. Wolfsburg will then travel on to Zhuhai where it will face a yet to be confirmed European team on May 21.
“VfL Wolfsburg is a German club with a reputation and solid market influence amongst Chinese football fans,” Zheng Menghui, general manager of CCTVSE, said. “We do hope the forthcoming friendly match will further strengthen the relationship and friendship on football business between China and Germany by contributing more to the future development of Chinese football.”
Wolfsburg has visited China in 2000, 2012 and 2014 and will use this year’s trip to act as brand ambassadors for the Bundesliga and parent company Volkswagen.
