World Cup rights deal signed in Afghanistan

Afghan media group Ariana Television Network has extended its rights deal for the Fifa World Cup by acquiring rights to this year’s edition of the national team football tournament in Russia.

World football’s governing body has granted ATN the exclusive media rights license to broadcast the 2018 World Cup across cable, satellite and terrestrial television in Afghanistan.

ATN previously broadcast the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and covered Afghanistan’s unsuccessful qualifying campaign for this summer’s event, which runs from June 14 to July 15.

ATN claims to be the largest private media platform in Afghanistan, covering 33 of 34 provinces and reaching over 20 million Afghans.
