The International Paralympic Committee and World Para Alpine Skiing have announced that all World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup events during the 2017-18 season will be live streamed for the first time.
Streaming will be through a dedicated website, as well as on the IPC’s official YouTube channel and the World Para Alpine Skiing Facebook page. The World Cup website will also feature additional video content such as daily highlights and interviews.
The World Para Alpine Skiing Facebook page and its official Twitter account will showcase daily highlights videos and clips. In addition, athlete reaction and behind-the-scenes videos will be available on Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.
Czech production company Playo TV has been appointed as host broadcaster for the World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup and will provide the live stream and all video highlights of the competition.
The IPC and World Para Alpine Skiing have said a number of broadcasters from “traditional snow sport nations” have expressed interest in the World Cup production package.
Broadcasters from Austria, Germany, Italy, Japan and the US have contacted the IPC and World Para Alpine Skiing about building the World Cup into coverage leading up to the 2018 winter Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
IPC commercial and marketing director Alexis Schäfer said: “We have continuously improved our broadcasting production for IPC sports year after year and now, with the support of Playo TV, we will offer to broadcasters the best coverage for Alpine skiing to date.
“This is the season of the Pyeongchang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games and there could be no better way to launch this new broadcast initiative. The coverage will allow us to promote the sport and athletes like never before to a global audience.”
The 2018 World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup begins with an event in St Moritz, Switzerland, from December 11-16. The season concludes in Kimberley, Canada, with an event that runs from February 7-11.
