ARD and ZDF to share 2014 World Cup rights

German public-service broadcasters ARD and ZDF will broadcast the Fifa World Cup in its entirety for the first time since 1998 after receiving no sub-licensing proposals for next year’s tournament from rival broadcasters.

German news agency DPA said ARD and ZDF will split live coverage of all 64 games from the 2014 World Cup, which will be hosted by Brazil.

Commercial broadcaster RTL agreed deals to show nine games during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and eight during the 2006 tournament in Germany.

Last week, Germany was drawn alongside Portugal, Ghana and the United States in Group G of the 2014 World Cup.
