ARD/ZDF extend European handball

Infront agreed the deal with SportA, ARD/ZDF’s in-house rights arm. ARD/ZDF have an existing deal in place covering last year’s European Championship and next year’s event in Austria.

ARD/ZDF’s coverage of last year’s championship, in Norway, drew three times more viewers than the 2006 event. The Germany-Denmark semi-final peaked at 8.02 million viewers (33-per-cent audience share).

Infront Sports & Media has already sold media rights to EHF European Handball Championships until 2015 in 13 European countries.

In the important Scandinavian market agreements are in place for Denmark (TV2), Norway (TV2) and Sweden (TV4). In Croatia (HRT), Germany (ARD/ZDF), Hungary (MTV), Iceland (RUV), Poland (TVP) and Rumania (TVR) the EHF EURO events will be transmitted by public broadcasters.

Bulgaria (for the first time in history of the event), Czech Republic, Slovakia and Spain are covered through agency agreements.
