Argentina listed-events law to become effective in second half of 2011

The list includes: the participation of Argentinian athletes in the athletics’ World Championships, the Olympics and the Pan American Games, in addition to all the medal stages of the competitions; Argentina’s national team games in all sports in tournaments and friendlies; the final stages of individual sports events in which Argentinian sportsmen and sportswomen are involved; football tournaments organised by Conmebol, South American football’s governing body; the final stages of the Copa Sudamericana, the Recopa Sudamericana, the Copa Libertadores, and other Conmebol tournaments; the final stages of the Copa America; the Argentinian Primera División; local television coverage of local teams in Argentinian lower division football; the Fifa World Club Cup; motor racing’s Turismo Carretera, TC 2000 and Top Race; local television coverage of local teams in the Argentinian national basketball league, volleyball league and rugby league.

Afsca said that the government intended to follow the example of its ‘futbol para todos’ scheme, whereby the government acquired the rights in a 10-year deal, and acquire other sports rights. It said that the state’s acquisition of sports rights would be at reasonable rates.
