Spanish LaLiga football club Barcelona has revealed details of a relaunch for its in-house television channel, Barça TV, and has reportedly agreed a two-year extension for the platform’s carriage deal in Catalonia.
The channel will now show content in high-definition. It will also receive greater reach in Spain through availability in the basic packages of the main digital platforms; global availability through the club’s online channels and a video-on-demand service; an overhaul of its look and appearance; and the creation of new content.
The new-look Barça TV is set to be launched for the 2019 Joan Gamper Trophy, the annual pre-season match which Barcelona hosts and will this year see the club take on English Premier League team Arsenal on August 4.
Barça TV will come under the banner of Barça Studios, a new in-house division for the creation, production and distribution of its audiovisual content which was approved by the club in January.
Meanwhile, the Palco23 website said Barcelona has agreed a two-year extension to its deal with media company Grupo Godó for a DTT channel license for Barça TV’s broadcast in Catalonia.
