UK public-service broadcaster the BBC has acquired rights for the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup national team football tournament.
The tournament will be hosted by Canada from June 6 to July 5 and the BBC said that it would broadcast every game across its BBC Two and BBC Three television channels and the Red Button digital service.
The agreement furthers the BBC’s commitment to the women’s game following its broadcast of the 2013 Uefa Women’s Championship, regular coverage of the domestic Women’s Super League and England internationals.
Barbara Slater, the BBC’s director of sport, said: “Our coverage of women’s football goes from strength to strength and there continues to be a strong appetite for it.”
England has never made it past the quarter-final stage of a World Cup but qualified for the 2015 finals by winning all of its games.
The draw for Canada 2015 will be made in Ottawa on December 6.
