UK telecommunications company BT has appointed Simon Green, chief executive of pay-television boxing channel BoxNation, as the head of its new UK sports channel, according to the Guardian newspaper.
The report said that Green would oversee the launch of the channel and report into BT Vision chief executive Marc Watson.
The newspaper added that UK commercial broadcaster ITV remains in contention for the production contract for BT’s new sports channel, which has acquired live rights to show English Premier League football and English Premiership Rugby matches from the start of the 2013-14 season. The report also listed production companies IMG Worldwide, All3Medias, North One Television and Sunset + Vine as likely rivals for the contract.
