British GT Championship secures landmark TV deal

UK free-to-air sports channel Front Runner has acquired rights to the British GT Championship, granting the motor-racing series season-long television exposure for the first time in its 25-year history.

Under the agreement, Front Runner will provide live coverage of every UK round from the series during the 2017 season.

The deal does not cover the series’ only non-UK race, the Spa-Francorchamps event in Belgium.

Front Runner will also broadcast events from the series’ Mini Challenge support category.

The British GT Championship season begins on April 17 with an event at Oulton Park in Cheshire.

British GT Championship manager Benjamin Franassovici said: “This is fantastic news for British GT & Mini Challenge, their drivers and teams, who together with Front Runner now have a platform capable of reaching millions of new and existing fans. It’s really exciting to be bucking the trend of motor racing, and sport in general, by offering live free-to-air coverage throughout our 25th anniversary season.”

Front Runner launched last October and is the UK’s only free-to-air sports channel.
