Lega Serie A, the top Italian football league, did not receive a bid for its package of free-to-air highlights comprising afternoon comment-based programming and the first viewing of goals round-ups in early evenings on weekends.
Following a series of negotiations with broadcasters including Sky Italia, Mediaset and Rai, the league had asked for sealed bids by lunchtime yesterday, July 10. It had been reported that Sky was interested in exploiting the rights on its free-to-air channel Cielo.
The rights cover three seasons, from 2012-13 to 2014-15.
According to reports, the league will consider restructuring the package if it remains unsold by the middle of this month.
Italian public-service broadcaster Rai has already acquired the other free-to-air highlights package, which ensures the continuation of its flagship early-evening highlights programme Novantesimo Minuto and the late-night round-up show Domenica Sportiva.
