UK telecommunications company BT has denied that an increase in its line rental costs is linked to its entry into the sports broadcasting market, according to the Press Association news agency.
BT has increased the cost of its Line Rental Saver Plan, which grants customers a better deal by paying a year in advance, from £129 (€153/$196) to £141 from June 1.
A BT spokeswoman said there was “no link whatsoever between these price changes and our investment in sports rights.”
BT said last month that it would offer its new BT Sport pay-television service for free to broadband customers as it seeks to compete with rival pay-television broadcaster BSkyB.
The company’s sports channels will launch in August.
